E-Juice How to:

Watch the video or read the article:

Need:

-You must be 18 years or older to make e-juice!
-VG. (Vegetable Glycerin)
-PG. (Propylene Glycol)
-Nicotine (Nicotine is optional, be sure to use gloves).
-Flavorings – several.
-Syringes – 3x min 10mL – 1 for nicotine completely away from rest. Do not contaminate!
-Container for juice – glass or plastic e-juice bottles. (to fill your vape with).
-Containers of water to rinse syringes in.

-Mixing container for e-juice.

-Paper towels for drips.
-Distilled water (for mixing in e-juice - optional).
-Gloves.

It would be a good idea to get the MSDS (Material Specific Data Sheets) for every chemical you work with.
This will show you how to prevent many hazards and much more!!! very important!

It is important to start with quality ingredients. Cheap flavors taste cheap.

INFO:

Nicotine: Is very toxic. You do not want to touch this, drink this, or smell too much of this. It can kill you.
Be very careful working with E-juice and especially Nicotine!
Wear gloves at all times, do not spill any. Put down paper towels on counter to prevent spills.

Pharmacy grade or USP grade VG/PC! Not anything else. (bad=AG which is VG thinned with de-ionized water – 15% VG).

VG:

– Thicker in viscosity.
-Most vapor – huge clouds.
-Does not carry flavor as well as PG.
-Very little throat hit.
-Adds sweetness and smoothness

PG:

– Thinner in viscosity.
-Less vapor – fades quickly too.
-More flavor – tobacco and fruit flavors most benefit.
-Harsher throat hit – dry throat.

PG/VG mix ratios:
100/0 (PG only): Strong throat hit, clean flavors , little vapor production.
80/20 (PG/VG): Little vapor production, moderately strong throat hit.
70/30 (PG/VG): Little more vapor, little less throat hit.
60/40 (PG/VG): Ok vapor, not to overwhelming throat hit.
50/50 (PG/VG): Even mix, good vapor, soft throat hit.
40/60 (PG/VG): Larger vapor clouds, reduce throat hit.
30/70 (PG/VG): Good vapor, minimal throat hit.
20/80 (PG/VG): Excellent vapor, very small throat hit.
0/100 (VG only): Little throat hit, noticeably sweet flavor undertones, massive vapor production.

Another thing about the mix ratio is the thickness of the liquid.
PG is very thin.
VG is very thick!
Some vape coild may leak if a lot of PG is used, and too much VG may not burn well.

Flavors:

Sometimes less is more with the flavor, keep amount low at start of batch and test sample
Good quality flavors are good mixed at 1%-3%, some are 5%-10%, and others a bit higher.
Start low and you can always add more later.

Some flavors do not mix well. Think about which flavors would work well together.

Additives:

CAUTION! USE VERY LITTLE!
-Sweeten.
-Smoothen.
-Sour - (good with Strawberry, candy, cakes, etc).
-Bitters – (good with tobacco and dark fluids).

Nicotine:

Nicotine is very toxic. You do not want to touch this, drink this, or smell too much of this. It can kill you.
Be very careful working with E-juice and especially Nicotine!
Wear gloves at all times, do not spill any. Put down paper towels on counter to prevent spills.
Nicotine amounts – larger qty = more throat hit
You do not want to over do the nicotine level. The most I would make an e-juice is 24mg/ml nicotine. I keep mine about 18-20mg/ml.
If you do not know where to start, you should start with a lower dose. maybe 10mg/ml.

How to change the throat hit:

-PG and VG proportions.
-white extract in uk, flash in usa (1-2% at most- add a few drops).
-methanol concentrates (great with orange, cherry, strawberry, tobacco).
-MTS (mellow, thick, smooth) – helps balance flavors, texture in throat 2-3 drops 30ml.
-Magic mask- reduces acid/sour from some flavors, helps with bad sour on tongue.
-Sweetener or smoothener.

Calculate a recipe:

Pick a reputable recipe calculator, there are many online, on phone apps, and computer programs.

It will ask you to input:

-Base nicotine in mg/ml.
-Target nicotine in mg/ml.
-Water percentage in %.
-Flavor percentage in %.

I pick my base nicotine by what it shows on my nicotine bottle. I use a 100mg/ml bottle which is very strong, so that I can make more ejuice with less nicotine juice.
The target nicotine is what your goal nicotine level will be after you mix.
Water use in percent. I leave mine at 0%, I do not like to water down my e-juice.
Flavor in percent. This is your goal mixture. In my experience, the darker the color, the less you use, same goes with any additive, they are very strong. I have seen a few light or clear color fluids that are very strong too. so always mix weak and you can sample and add more. or make smaller mixed to test your flavors.

Then you hit calculate and it will give you the recipe.

The output is:

-Base liquid in ml and drops.
-PG/VG in ml and drops. (You can choose your PG/VG ratio, just both together need to add up to this number).
-Water in ml and drops.
-Flavors in ml and drops. (You can mix several flavors, all needs to add up to this number).

Print out – or write out calculator readings from computer, or phone app.

Mixing the E-juice:

Mix in a area with good ventaliation: Fumes are bad to breathe!

Put down a paper towel and get started.
Shake and mix the PG bottle
Measure out PG using a clean syringe – how many mL from calculator (if you want a only VG mix, then do not add any PG).
Put into mixing jar or flask.
Rinse syringe in a jar or flask filled with clean water.

Use another syringe for VG.
Shake and mix the VG bottle
Measure out VG using calculator (if you want a only PG mix, then do not add any VG).
Put into mixing jar or flask.

Rinse syringe in a jar or flask filled with clean water.

Measure out flavoring from the calculator – use a different syringe.
Mix up now – quick shake.
Rinse syringe in a jar or flask filled with clean water.

WEAR GLOVES NOW! (If your not wearing them already, Its suggested you wear them through the entire process).
Nicotine is last – prevent spills – TOXIC!
Shake up well - Use a new syringe, and add it to the mix.
Rinse syringe in a jar or flask filled with clean water.

Shake or mix your new e-juice and enjoy a sample.

Take good notes on your recipe and the results. You can always improve on them.

Steeping:

Steeping is optional, but it can help get better flavors and a smoother taste.
I vape right after mixing, while I also steep by keeping in a dark place, opening few minutes daily for 1 week.

Methods I have read about:
Store in dark place – 24 hours – Shake it up - leave top off for bubbles to pop and juice clear up in a dark place 24 hours – Repeat process for 4-5 days to steep and breathe. Will go lighter and flavor mature

21 days = best steep for many flavors
Spinning with drill makes 21 days down to 3 days to steep. Mixes PG and VG to bond properly
Wait to clear and mix, do 3x.
Some exposure to air helps. ( drill does this a lot)
You can vape with the e-juice right after you mixed it all, but its best after curing.
Be careful in measurements – can be a big difference

Final notes:

Keep trying and be focused. It takes time to make great recipes!
Take good notes and keep improving your flavors.
Pick types of flavors you like, and try to make those flavors.

I know I did not cover every aspect of making e-juice, but this should be enough to get you started.
Please do your research and feel confident that you know what you are doing before you start.

Best of all, Have fun and enjoy vaping!
